Western Australia is famous for its long days of sunshine, spotless blue skies and brilliant beaches. The big variety of landscapes and climates in Western Australia means there is always plenty of sunshine, making it a perfect year-round destination.

  • The Kimberleys, the West Coast Eagles and the wineries of Margaret River

One of the best places to read about WA is at the official travel and tourism website for Western Australia, and what you will find below is just a little bit to wet your appetite.

Western Australia is Australia’s largest state. In fact, the state is so big that it has cattle stations the size of England. The 2.1 million Western Australians are known as sandgropers - apparently it has something to do with insects found on sand dunes around Perth.

For practical reasons we have separeted the state into 5 regions for tourism - the North West, The Coral Coast, Perth & Surrounds, the South West and the Golden Outback.

The North West

The Kimberley region is a very remote part of the north west. Its about the size of Germany and with a population of about 40,000 or so. It has one proper road ... and the scenery is spectacular. This is one of the world's last true wilderness areas and the place to go for an authentic Aussie outback adventure.

The largest town in the Kimberleys is Broome with a population of about 15,000, and Australia's most famous beach - Cable Beach.

Cable Beach is renowned as one of the most stunning beaches in the world, with 22 kilometres of pristine white sands that is washed clean every day by the tides. Cable Beach provides the ideal safe environment for swimming and relaxation, although caution is required between November and March when stingers are present.

The Coral Coast

In the The Coral Coast area you will find a variety of spectacular reefs and marine life, white sandy beaches and warm turquoise waters. It is great for fishing and diving all year round.

The region offers amazing experiences and interactions with a variety of marine life, including meeting the dolphins of Monkey Mia, sea lions, manta rays, dugongs and humpback whales. Australia’s Coral Coast is one of the few places in the world where you can swim with the world’s largest fish – the whale shark.

Perth and Surrounding Areas

Perth has all the essential ingredients for a great holiday. Some of the country's best beaches, plenty of nightlife, bustling markets, inner city parks, outdoor dining and amazing marine adventures.

If you follow sports you will know that the WACA is a famous cricket ground and that the Fremantle Doctor is a fresh sea breeze that brings relief to Perth on hot Summer days.

AFL (Australian football) is popular in the West and the West Coast Eagles is one of the most successful AFL teams in recent years. It last won the Premiership in 2006.

The South West

Margaret River and its surrounds are a popular destination for world-class wineries, top surfing and fun family holidays. Locals head here in winter too, responding to the lure of cosy log-fires, brisk walks along the beach, horse riding through the bush and mountains of delicious local produce.

The Golden Outback of Western Australia

The vast outback can offer true adventures, authentic Aboriginal encounters and visits to settlements built by goldrush pioneers. Four-wheel drivers will relish the Canning Stock Route, the Gunbarrel Highway through to Uluru and the sealed Eyre Highway across the expansive Nullarbor.

Kalgoorlie is perhaps the best known town in the the heart of WA's gold mining country. Still a thriving mining town, it's also a living museum where visitors can visit a vast operational open-pit mine, explore an old mine shaft or try their hand at gold-panning.

In extreme contrast, the rugged coastline and sandy coves around the small coastal town of Esperance provide great opportunities for windsurfing and diving.
